Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga, is the oldest holistic and preventative oriented health-care system in the world. More than 5,000 years old, Ayurvedic wisdom is rooted in India's ancient Vedic texts. The translation of this Sanskrit word "ayurveda" is "the science of life." True to its name, Ayurveda looks to the principles of nature, harmony and rhythm to help individuals better understand their unique health profiles and to come into alignment with the nature that exists both within and around them.
How Ayurveda came to the Healing Spa
At the Healing Spa we have been practicing Swedna or Steam Therapy for a couple of years. Sheri Beth is always looking to broaden her practice and has always been drawn to Ayurveda. In May of 2010 she began an indepth study program in Ayurvedic Bodywork at Kripalu in Stockbridge, MA.
"The idea of balance made sense to me of course. But the process of treating the person, not the disease or condition is what intrigued me the most. In my practice I have many people who come seeking help in end stages of disease, cancer especially, after they have "tried everything else". It's my hope that thru Ayurveda I can begin to help people to prevent and/or come thru these diseases thru balance and well being."
